Gita Jayanti - Singapore Hindus do it again!

Once again, Singapore's Hindu community came together to beautifully celebrate the glory of the Bhagavad Gita through a mass Gita havan on the grounds of the Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple in Singapore. This was the culmination of the Gita Jayanti 2011-12 celebrations, sponsored and directed by the Marathi Mitra Mandal of Singapore. The pictures below show the breath-taking mūrti of Lord Vitthala of Pandharpur at the altar.

Hundreds of devotees participated in the preparation of the yaGYa site, in the chanting and in the actual havan or homa. Beginning with a Ganesha homa, followed by Śrī Kṛṣṇa Ashttotara and then the chanting of the entire Bhagavad Geeta with each verse accompanied by an offering to the homa, the event was an explosion of sattvic energy spread over 4 hours.

The event brought to mind verse 9-16 in which Śrī Kṛṣṇa declares:
मन्त्रोऽहमहमेवाज्यमहमग्निरहं हुतम् ||९-१६||
mantro.ahamahamevaajyamahamagnirahaM hutam.h .. 9-16..
I am the MANTRA I am also the clarified butter; I am the fire; I am the oblation.

The success of the Gita Jayanti was predicted by Śrī Kṛṣṇa himself in 10-36, for after all:
जयोऽस्मि व्यवसायोऽस्मि सत्त्वं सत्त्ववतामहम्
jayo.asmi vyavasaayo.asmi sattvaM sattvavataamaham.h
I am the industry (in those who are determined) ; I am the goodness in the good.

Geeta Dhyānaṁ 2 - Vyāsā's Vast Intellect

January 7, 2013 Previously on Geeta Jayanti, I had posted on the eternal debt of gratitude to Mother Geeta that is the basis of Geeta Dhyānaṁ. I love Param Pujya Gurudev 's commentary on the Geeta Dhyānaṁ. Pujya Gurudev's commentary is after the introduction to the Bhagavad Geeta in the commentary on Chapters 1 & 2 published by the the Chinmaya Mission. I personally believe it should be a book by itself. After invoking Mother Geeta, we now pay tribute to the wise Vyāsa Rishi - the Guru whose Jayanti marks Guru Pūrnima every year. August 9, 2012 Swamini Vimalanandaji has done a series of talks at the Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA) called "406 SMS – Sure Mantras for Success from Bhagwad Geeta" (item 406 at this AMA link ). In this she has a very interesting take on the 1st line of the Bhagavad Geeta. धर्मक्षेत्रे कुरुक्षेत्रे १-१ dharmakShetre kurukShetre 1-1 <i> on the holy plain of Kurukshetra... </i> Swamini turns that slightly and says, क्षेत्रे क्षेत्रे धर्म कुरु - kShetre kShetre dharma kuru.
